Despite having only just turned 22, Ruta Gyvyte could have us all believing that she has been in the fashion industry for several years longer. A successful and rapidly growing style blogger (Amoureuse De Mode), Creative Director and founder of clothing label Comfess, Ruta has certainly achieved a significant amount in quick time, and is only just getting started. We sat down with her in New York to discuss what life is like when trying to juggle a million different things with the demands of being a digital influencer. Though she is originally from Lithuania, Ruta travels between London, New York (she’s moving there later this year) and Lithuania.
What’s your ideal Friday night out?
Delicious dinner and cocktails on a rooftop with my favourite people!
If you could wear one outfit for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Ripped denim jeans, white baggy shirt and comfy heels. Pretty goes with every occasion!
What’s the most precious/sentimental thing in your wardrobe?
A golden bracelet which my boyfriend brought me from Israel. I hope that counts?!
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?
“Stop for a minute and appreciate all those wonderful things you have in life.” I think that most of us live in such a fast-paced environment, that we often forget how grateful we should be. That’s why I love Instagram and taking tons of images, as it’s the best reminder of what we’ve got and what we’ve had!
What’s the best piece of advice you have for someone wanting to get into fashion/blogging?
Always do everything 100%. For example, if you had a plan to post a blog post on a Tuesday, but you’re not sure if you like it anymore, just don’t do it. I believe that you need to truly love your work, and then others will see that and instantly love it too!
How easy/difficult is it to balance your business with your blog?
Most of the time, it’s really hard. However, I absolutely love both. Even if it’s difficult sometimes, I still find ways to make them both work and spend as much time as it requires. I guess at the end of the day, it’s all about passion!
What’s your guilty pleasure?
Good restaurants! If I would ever have to choose between spending money on clothes or food, I’m pretty sure I’d spend it on eating haha!
If you could be successful in another profession, what would it be?
Interior design. I’ve always loved it and I’m constantly obsessing over decorating my place!
Tell us the most surprising thing that people may now know about you:
I was a hip hop dancer! Every time I tell someone, their reaction is “no way!” I guess that’s because I have a pretty calm/laid back personality, so it’s hard to imagine myself dancing like crazy!
Have you always had an interest in fashion?
I would say so. My parents have always been in the clothing industry, so I’ve always had that influence and passion hidden deep inside me, for as long as I can remember.
How/why did you get into blogging?
The main factor was probably my love for photography. My best friend and I were always creating outfits and organising random photoshoots in our backyard, so I guess it stems from that!
Describe your style in three words:
Feminine, modern and sweet.
What emoji are you?
The monkey with the eyes closed. I’m always excited about things and can’t believe they are actually happening!
What interests you most about fashion?
How clothes can really reflect someone’s personality. I guess that’s the most fascinating to me, personally.
Would you rather fight 100 duck sized horses, or one horse sized duck?
I’m not into fights to be honest haha!
Would you rather walk around fashion week in a black bin liner and have everyone think you’re serious, or delete your Instagram?
Delete my Instagram?! No way!
What’s the staple item in your wardrobe right now?
Blush pink, unique design loafers.
