Bashir is a recent graduate of UAL and is currently a full-time model with Models 1 in London and Photo/Genics in LA. We had a chance encounter with him whilst doing street style photography in Shoreditch, and after a brief chat, decided we wanted to know more about him! Read on to find out more about how Bashir got into modelling, and what his plans are for 2016.
How were you scouted and signed to Models 1?
My Mum is also a model, so her booker asked if I could come in to model and it all started from there really!
What’s your ideal Friday night out?
Any club that plays good hip hop, and just being surrounded by my people and good vibes is always a good night. I go out in Mayfair a lot as I have a good group of friends there, and I’ve actually had some of my best nights there.
If you could wear one outfit for the rest of your life, what would it be?
What’s the most precious/sentimental thing in your wardrobe?
My girlfriend and my friends got together and bought me a pair of Yeezys for my birthday, so definitely those. The fact that they went through that effort means a lot.
What are your goals for 2016?
To have a better year than 2015, travel more and just create more experiences. I’m hoping to go and stay in LA for three months to do some modelling.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
Never work a 9-5…I kind of advised myself on that one!
What’s your guilty pleasure?
Electric Cinema and eating out. It’s bad, but I probably eat out for at least one meal a day…
If you could be successful in another profession, what would it be?
A footballer for sure. I used to play a lot and I still daydream about playing pro now.
Tell us the most surprising thing that people may not know about you.
I’m a quarter Arab! 1/4 Saudi Arabian, 1/4 Spanish, 1/4 English and 1/4 Scottish.
What’s your favourite place in London?
Probably Shoreditch, for the vibes and restaurants.
What’s the biggest misconception about the modelling industry?
That it’s easy to be a model. What people see is models that have made it, but they don’t see that they’ve been through much more and it’s actually really hard and demanding. I’ll find out about a shoot the day before it’s happening. A pretty face just isn’t enough. Nowadays, it’s especially becoming so much more centred around your social media following.
What’s your favourite style of shoot to do?
On location, usually, but also interior shoots with a set up.
How did LA life treat you?
I enjoyed LA a lot. It was super relaxed and chill, and that relates to my lifestyle in a big way. The fresh pressed juices were on point, and I got to eat at some great restaurants. Despite the stigma around LA and people in LA, everyone I met was cool. Everyone at my agency was so welcoming and I cannot wait to go back.
What are your favourite pairs of sneakers?
My favourites (that I own) are: Adidas Ultra Boost, Yeezy 350 Moonrock, Visvim FBT, Jordan 1 Bred, Rick Owens Ramones. I wish I owned: Yeezy 750 Boost Grey, Jordan 1 Shadow and Yeezy 2 Plat.
If you could be anyone for the day, who would you be?
Kanye West, without a doubt.
Who is your favourite designer at the moment?
What’s the most stressful thing about your job?
The anticipation and probably let-down of being on option for a job, leaving everyday free for castings or jobs and as a result of that, it’s difficult to make plans when everything is so last minute. I often find out about jobs the night before they’re happening.
What are your future plans and things that you want to do eventually, aside from modelling?
For now, I want to see how modelling goes. I’ve always wanted to start a brand, but the industry is so saturated. New clothing brands pretty much appear on a daily basis, so I think it’s a bit late for that, but I do want to do something where I can create in different aspects of design, so let’s see.
