Jack Saunders is a presenter, music promoter, DJ and model. He presents Early Weekend Breakfast from 4am – 6:30am on Radio X and is also the cover for The Selector programme; a new music show broadcast to 40 different countries around the world. We caught up with Jack to find out a bit more about what life is like being a presenter, promoter, DJ model all at once.
What’s your ideal Friday night out ?
Well, with my Saturday morning show, Friday nights I’m usually in bed by about 9…but a Saturday? Start out at Oslo in Hackney, it’s a top night, then ending up at the Karaoke box in Soho. Gotta love a bit of karaoke!
Describe your style in three words:
I love the 50’s style (said Jack, sat in his roll neck and high jeans). I like a classic look, but to mix it up with a contemporary bomber or some sick shoes!
It’s clear you’ve probably always had a love for music, but how did you get into presenting?
It was/has been an extremely long process. I started presenting whilst at university (Nottingham Trent), where I presented for Fly FM. It just so happened that during my time there, Fly had its best ever Student Radio Awards haul (9 nominations, 5 Gold and 1 Bronze). From there, it kind of just snowballed!
What is your favourite fashion trend of 2015?
I love a camel jacket with a collar underneath/patterned shirt, coupled with a nice pair of desert boots.
If you could be successful in another profession, what would it be?
I’d probably be a lawyer. Yes, I’m a Suits fan, team Harvey Spectre…
What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given, and what’s your best piece of advice to others?
Don’t stop. Just keep going. You have to be patient, and just be friendly with people.
Favourite albums of 2015?
- Jamie xx – In Colour
- Courtney Barnett – Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit
- Wolf Alice – My Love is Cool
- Formation (just because they do the conga at their gigs)
Summer or Winter?
What’s your guilty pleasure?
Nothing! Be proud of what you love!
You can have any dead/alive artist on air, who would it be and why?
100% Kurt Cobain. There’s so much out there about him, so I would want to set the record straight and just quiz him on everything. I’d make him pinky promise he was telling me the truth.
Hardest thing about your job?
Having to try and please everyone! I can play a track, and still get people asking why on earth I’m playing that.
What is the biggest misconception about modelling and music industry?
That we’re a bunch of idiots. I often get told it’s not a proper job, or quizzed at ‘what else I do’. That goes for both industries.
If you had to wear one outfit for the rest of your life, what would it be?
- Monk strap brogues
- High waisted loose fit jeans from Topman
- Roll neck – like a wool knitted cable knit
- Plain bomber jacket
- Maybe some Raybans
Do you have any resolutions for 2016?
Get fit or die tryin.
